Guardians of the Winter Wonderland

Serving Treetops Resort. Supporting the Region. Part of a National Legacy.

Serving Treetops Resort

We are the dedicated volunteer ski patrol serving Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan. From the first chair to the final sweep, our patrollers are the first on and last off the hill, working tirelessly to promote a fun and safe environment on all 23 runs and the Extreme Tubing park.

Outdoor Emergency Care

We provide immediate, professional assistance for injured guests, ensuring that help is always nearby when you need it most.

Safety Guidance

We help visitors navigate the terrain, understand slope safety codes, and ensure a positive experience for families and thrill-seekers alike.

Hill Safety

We open the mountain, check slope conditions, prepare safety equipment, and perform the final sweep to ensure every skier gets down safely.

Our Network of Support

Northern Michigan Region (NMR)

We collaborate with fellow patrols across Northern Michigan (including Boyne Mountain, Nub’s Nob, and Schuss Mountain) to maintain high standards of care. Our members actively participate in regional training events, such as the Snowsports Enhancement Seminars (SES) and Toboggan Enhancement Seminars (TES).

Central Division

As part of the Central Division, which serves nine states, we adhere to a mission of upholding the highest standards of outdoor emergency care. We benefit from division-wide educational programs, including Avalanche, Mountain Travel & Rescue (MTR), and Senior/Certified programs.

National Ski Patrol (NSP)

We are a vital unit of the NSP, a nonprofit organization founded in 1938. By joining our patrol, we connect with over 30,000 members nationwide. Through the NSP, our patrollers receive nationally recognized training in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Avalanche Safety, and Toboggan Handling.

Our History

FROM SYLVAN KNOB TO TREETOPS

Treetops Resort has a rich history of transformation. Originally known as Sylvan Knob when it opened in 1954, the resort was renamed Treetops Resort in the 1980s. The name is famously attributed to golf legend Lee Trevino, who remarked that he felt like he was standing on top of the trees.

For decades, the Treetops Ski Patrol has evolved alongside the resort. We continue to honor the tradition of volunteerism, supporting the resort’s growth from a local ski hill to a destination that hosts thousands of winter visitors annually.
